A respected religious scholar, he was among Madrasah Aljunied’s first batch of students, from 1927 to 1933.
He dedicated his life to Islam, teaching and giving sermons for almost 40 years.
He was also active in eradicating deviant teachings in the many small islands around Singapore.
During the last decade of his life, he drastically reduced his teaching activities.
However, his Friday Night Majlis continued in his house till his demise on Tuesday afternoon, 27 April 2004 / 7 Rabiul Awal 1425, at the age of 83.
